The PM Hoof Pad Wedge offers, like any wedge-shaped pad, the opportunity to correct the hoof-pastern-axis. In addition, it is a well-proven technique to regenerate heels and improve leg balance. In the application of this technique, the heels are trimmed just so much that thing in the PM Hoof Pad Wedge does not alter the correct hoof-pastern-axis. This extends the heels’ bearing surface greatly and distributes the specific pressure at the heels on a larger area. Thus the heels grow again healthily; the toe will remain at the correct angle throughout the shoeing interval. Furthermore, the leg balance improves, because the enlargement shifts the hoof’s bearing surface closer to the limb’s weight-bearing axis.

Restores the hoof balance by enlarging the weight-bearing area, eliminating increased strain on tendons, heels, and soles.
Like the PM Hoof Pad Flat, it displays a tendon-supporting effect by its frog-shaped concavity – leading to a statics/balance improvement similar to the one of a closed-bar shoe (e.g. egg-bar shoe). Furthermore, it offers a much better pressure distribution on frogs and soles.
The extra benefit of the PM Hoof Pad Wedge is the enlargement of the weight-bearing area of the heels which results in an optimized weight and pressure distribution. For this, the pad must be applied as shown in the photo diagram. By lowering the heels, the weight-bearing area is substantially increased. The pad fits in the space of the removed heel and keeps a correct hoof-pastern axis. The left space between the hoof and the PM Hoof Pad Wedge is filled with Hoof Packing Regular or Soft.
